EMG and Nerve conduction testing explores the potential causes for your numbness, tingling, burning, pain, weakness or cramping occurring anywhere in the body, most commonly in nerves and muscles of the hands or feet but it may also be isolated to just in the neck or low back. Your test may consist of one or two parts, including Nerve Conduction Studies and electromyography, EMG.

Nerve Conduction Studies (NCV) examine the body’s electrical signals traveling in your nerves. When testing, several nerves in the arms or legs your body is given small electrical impulses (feels like a very brief tingling) and the responses to these impulses are recorded by small adhesive pads placed on your arms or legs. If the EMG portion of the test is needed, a small thin disposable needle close to the size of a human hair is applied for a second to the muscles needed to be tested. There is a small discomfort during needle insertion, but it is minor and brief. The care and professional experience of the testing personnel is always a factor with the level of your comfort. NeuroTesting Group and its experienced physicians have performed thousands of these tests over the years and has your comfort and safety as the most important elements of the testing procedure.
